Use these free printable advent coloring pages as part of your holiday activities this year as you prepare for Christmas.

The Christmas season is one of my favorites. I love the magic of the holidays, family time, and making memories together. Amidst all of the holiday fun, it’s really important to me that my family spends time focusing on the Christmas story and the true meaning of Christmas.

While we love doing fun advent countdowns we also love doing a Christmas advent that includes scripture and focus on the Christmas story.

What is Advent?

The meaning of advent according to the dictionary is “the arrival of a notable person, thing or event.” In Christian Theology, advent refers to the coming or second coming of Christ.

Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation for the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas time. The advent season is a time to reflect on Christ’s birth. It’s a time when we can the true meaning of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Traditionally Advent Starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and goes through Christmas Eve (Dec 24).

Most people now start the season of advent or their countdown to Christmas on December first and continue until Christmas day.

What is an Advent Calendar?

An advent calendar is often filled with a little surprise, or treat to enjoy each day. There are also advent calendars that are coloring pages, have a different piece of the nativity to add to your scene each day, or have a daily scripture to read.

This year as my family countdown to Christmas I want to make sure we spend some time each day focused on Jesus so I decided to create a few Christmas Advent Coloring Pages to do with my kids and I wanted to share them with you.

How to Use the Printable Christmas Advent Coloring Pages

These free advent coloring pages can be used as part of a Christmas lesson, for a church group, as part of daily advent devotions, or as morning work for your homeschool.

For our family, we will start our first day of advent on December 1st and continue through Christmas Eve. During the holidays we keep school simple and do more fun holiday activities than traditional school days.

The holiday season is a great time to do advent activities, learn about Christmas traditions around the world, read together, bake and enjoy real-life experiences as a family.

Christmas Advent Coloring Pages

These advent coloring sheets have many different uses. They are a great Christmas countdown for your family to spend time each day focusing on the celebration of the birth of Jesus. You could also use these coloring pages with a kid’s Sunday school class in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The advent coloring pages can all be combined to make a fun advent coloring book with pictures and scriptures that tell the Christmas story.

I created two different versions of my Christmas advent coloring page one of them has journaling space below each picture. This can be used to write about whatever you would like (the last page has some suggested writing prompts you can use if you would like). The other version simply has a larger image to color and is perfect for young children.

For both the coloring page journal and the regular coloring pages there are 25 advent coloring pages in the coloring bundle. The cover page has 24 boxes each with a number to color after completing the day’s page. Each of the 24 additional daily coloring pages have a scripture verse or Christmas hymn to read/sing each day leading up to Christmas.

Day 8 of the Advent Coloring Pages

So my plan is that at the beginning of advent we will start these fun Christmas advent coloring books. Each day we will color the daily coloring page and read the scripture verses to help us remember the Christmas story.

After the kids complete the daily page they can color the numbered box for that day. This will help us spend time focused on the real reason we celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ.

Day 21 of the Advent Coloring Pages Journal

Images included in this Christian coloring page activity book are different images of Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the stable, wise men, shepherds, Bethlehem, and more.

To get this activity ready before the first week of the advent season simply get the pdf file at the bottom of this post and print out the coloring pages and you’re ready to go.
