Fun and Easy Handprint Turkey Craft For Kids

This fun and easy handprint turkey craft is so fun and easy to make and is the perfect kids craft for Thanksgiving.

Not only is it easy to make and only requires a few craft supplies, it turns out so cute.

We have been making these handprint turkey’s since my oldest was a preschooler.

It’s so fun to be able to look back and see just how small my kids hands were in years past and how much they have grown.

Thanksgiving Handprint Turkey Craft

This handprint turkey is fast and easy to make and the perfect craft project for in class or at home.

Turkey Handprint Craft Supplies:

To make the handprint turkeys you only need a few common craft supplies and our printable.

  • Construction Paper
  • Printed Turkey Bodies (free printable at bottom of the post)
  • Gluestick
  • Googly eyes
  • A hand (hopefully you have a couple of those!)

Prep for the Handprint Turkey Craft

If you’re making this craft with toddlers and preschoolers the easiest thing to do is get everything cut out before having the kids come to do the craft.

With older kids they should be able to do this Thanksgiving craft on their own with minimal help.

I love doing crafts with my kids especially when it involves handprints. This handprint turkey craft is so fun and easy to make. #thanksgiving #turkeycraft

Things that Need to be Cut Out

There are only two things that need to be cut out for this craft the handprints and the turkey body.

If you are making multiple turkeys you need multiple of the handprints and the turkey bodies.

Handprints

The first part of making this Thanksgiving handprint turkey craft is getting the handprint.

Trace your child’s hand once for each turkey you are going to make ( you can trace once and use the tracing as a template for all of the other handprints if you need to).

I like to use fall colors to make our turkeys so we used orange, red and yellow for the handprint “feathers” of our turkeys.

After tracing each handprint needs to be cut out.

Turkey Body

After getting the handprints cut out you need to cut out a turkey body for each turkey.

The turkey body template at the bottom of the post includes 12 turkey bodies on the page.

Cut out as many turkey shapes as you need. If you want more than 12 turkeys print additional pages.

Making the Handprint Turkey Craft

Now that everything is cut out it’s time for the fun part of putting together the Thanksgiving handprint turkey craft.

I love doing crafts with my kids especially when it involves handprints. This handprint turkey craft is so fun and easy to make. #thanksgiving #turkeycraft

First you are going to glue the handprint to the back of the turkey body.

If the wrist area of the handprint is too big to fit behind the turkey you can trim the edges a little if you want.

I have trimmed the handprint and I have left it and they both turned out looking cute.

You can position the turkey body as high or as low as you want on the handprint. The lower the body is the more of the handprint feathers you can see.

Now it’s time for my kids favorite part of this craft, adding the googly eyes.

I let me kids pick the eyes for each turkey and then helped them put glue on the back (or peel of the sticker) before they attached the eyes to the turkey.

All of our turkeys ended up with different sizes of eyes. I think my favorite turkeys are the turkeys with two different size eyes. They look so fun!

Different Ways to Use the finished Handprint Turkey Craft

Yay, you made a cute handprint turkey. You can call it good or if you want you can use these cute turkeys in a few fun ways.

Handprint Turkey Thanksgiving Card

Turning the cute handprint turkeys into a Thanksgiving card is fast and easy.

You can glue the turkey to the front of a premade card or make your own. Simply fold a piece of cardstock in half and glue the turkey on the front to make a fun and festive Thanksgiving card.

Handprint Turkey Garland

Make several of the handprint turkeys and then using string, twine or ribbon create a garland.

I like to use mini clothespins to hang the handprint turkeys but you can also tape them to the string.

This year I mixed some leaves I got at the dollar store with the handprint turkeys to make a garland for our Thanksgiving book area.

Hang the Handprint Turkey

A simple way to display this cute Thanksgiving craft is by putting tape on the back and hanging them on the wall or doors.

We displayed a few of our turkeys along with some fall leaves above our piano.

Handprint Turkey Napkin Rings

Turn this cute turkey craft into fun and festive napkin rings. Simply cut a strip of cardstock and make a loop attaching it to the back of the turkey with tape.

Now you have a fun and inexpensive napkin ring for your Thanksgiving table.
