Mario Question Block Gender Reveal Photo Ideas

If you are a Mario fan then this Question Block Pinata Gender Reveal is a fun idea for you.

This past fall Jared and I went to the anatomy scan for baby #4 and found out the gender of our new little one. As we were driving home we talked about some fun ways to share the news with the kids. For baby #3 we did a silly string gender reveal which was a lot of fun.

We weren’t really sure what we wanted to do for the gender reveal this time we just knew we wanted it to be fun for the kids.

So on our drive home from the doctor’s appointment, we decided to stop at party city and see if we could get any inspiration.

Looking at all the gender reveal and baby stuff we didn’t see anything we really liked. So we started walking around the other areas of the store.

As we were wandering we found a super Mario question block piñata and we knew it would be perfect.

Our kids love the Mario video games so when we found the piñata we thought it would be fun to do a Mario-inspired gender reveal for baby #4.

Mario Question Block Gender Reveal

After deciding we were going to use the question block piñata for our gender reveal it was time to find things to put inside our piñata. We decided to do some candy, balloons, chalk, and confetti.

If I was to do it again I wouldn’t do candy because it gets nasty with the chalk. Instead, I would get small toys or something that could be easily washed off.

Filling the Piñata

First, we put candy in the piñata, followed by some balloons filled up really small. Then we added confetti and last we added the chalk.

After putting everything in the piñata we shook it up to mix everything together and spread out the chalk.

Gender Reveal Time

After getting the piñata ready it was time to do the gender reveal with the kids for baby #4.

We hung the super Mario question block piñata from the tree in our backyard and got ready.

We gave the kids a bat and let them each take a few turns hitting the piñata. After several tries, Jared took over and broke open the piñata!

Everything went flying and the chalk sent a bit pink poof as the piñata broke open.

The kids really enjoyed this gender reveal and we are all excited for baby girl to join the family.

Side Note: Yes this was a pull string pinata but we thought it would be more fun to break open with a bat.

Final Thoughts

Using a piñata for a gender reveal is a fun and easy way to involve the whole family in the gender reveal.

When trying to figure out what you want to do for a gender reveal don’t be afraid to get out of the “baby” sections and see what inspiration hits.

No matter what you decide to do for your gender reveal be sure to take photos and videos.

We had my sister take pictures for us and we set up a couple of tripods with our phones to record videos at different angles.

It’s so fun to be able to see this special announcement in both photos and videos.

  1. This Mario-themed gender reveal sounds so creative! I love how you found inspiration in an unexpected place. Did the kids go wild when the piñata burst? What was their favorite part of the reveal?
