When we got our Christmas tree this year we trimmed several branches off the bottom of the tree, so I have been thinking of what I can do with these extra branches. I eventually came up with this simple Christmas Centerpiece and a fun pine needle paper plate wreath to make with the kids.
In case you missed it paper plate wreaths are one of my favorite crafts to make with toddlers and preschoolers. There are so many cute wreaths you can make and they are cheap and easy!
This is also a great craft to do after going on a nature walk. If you don’t have a real Christmas tree you can still a few pine needles from, go outside and find some other natural elements to use for your paper plate wreath.
Pine Needle Paper Plate Wreath Supplies:
- Pine Needle Branches
- Glue
- Paper Plate
- Black Paint (optional)
- Hole Punch
- Ribbon/String
Putting the Wreath Together
This paper plate wreath is so easy to make it’s the perfect craft to make with toddlers and preschoolers. Plus it adds a fun holiday touch to the doors in your house.
Paint the Paper Plate
For our paper plate wreath, we decided to paint the paper plate before making the wreath. My kids love painting every chance they get, so we paint the paper plates for most of our wreaths.
I think the painted paper plates give the wreaths a more finished look. Plus painting them makes the craft take longer for the kids.
Let the paper plate dry before continuing to the next step.
Use a Lot of Glue
Cut the pine needles into short pieces or let the kids cut them. Then glue them to the plate.
Let your kids cover the paper plate with glue. They will need a lot of glue to get the pine needles to stick to the plate.
The pine needles don’t lay flat so you will probably need more glue than you think to get them to stick to the plate.
Let the Glue Dry
Once the plate is covered in glue and pine needles let the plate dry. It might take a couple of hours for the glue to completely dry.
Hang the Wreath
Once all the glue is dry punch a hole in the top of your paper plate wreath, use a ribbon or twine to make a loop to hang your wreath.
Enjoy your handmade pine needle wreath and the smell of fresh pine it brings.
