DIY Custom Guess Who Game Template (with Your Own Photos)

Inside: Step by step instructions to make your own Custom Guess who game using the editable template and your own photos.

One of our favorite games to play as a family is our personalized guess who game.

We have a couple of different versions of the custom guess who game. One with family photos, one with favorite Disney characters and one with the cast of the office (or favorite tv show).

Personalized Guess Who game that you can easily customize with easy to use templates

I made the games using the original guess who game I got from the store and an editable guess who printable to personalize with my own photos.

I created the editable template, so I could make a personalized guess who game for gifts this Christmas. I want to share it with you so you can enjoy a personalized guess who game too.

The board game template I designed makes it so easy to personalize your game.

Supplies for a Custom Guess Who Game

All you need is this classic guess who game, 24 photos, and the template (fill it in then, print it.)

This template comes with two versions that work for the classic game with square character tiles as well as the game with tall rectangular character tiles.

For the square character tiles has 24 red squares 24 blue squares and 24 yellow mystery cards. The rectangle character tiles template has 24 red rectangles, 24 blue rectangles, and 24 blue mystery cards.

The template does not work for the travel version of the game or the version with a single sheet for characters, instead of individual cards.

Upload and Add Photos

You will simply need to upload 24 photos and then drag and drop them into the photo fields.

You can use family photos or any other photos you would like to use.

I have made a “The Office” Guess Who Game since it’s one of my husband’s favorite TV shows. I also made a Disney guess who game with some of my kid’s favorite Disney characters.

When filling in the photo fields on the template make sure you get a blue and red character card for your board and a mystery (yellow or blue depending on your game) card for each picture.

Change Names and Print

After the photos are in place change the names written on each card.

Once the template is personalized you’re ready to print.

Download the file as a PDF and print it. You might want to print a test sheet to make sure everything looks the way you want.

When everything looks the way you want, print the game pieces on thick card stock, photo paper, or sticker paper (my favorite).

Photo paper will give your cards a shiny finish. Sticker paper makes it easy to stick the photo to the original guess who cards that came with the game.

Cut Out Cards and Put Custom Guess Who Game Together

Cut out each square and then put them into the game.

The red and blue cards might be a tiny bit too big depending on how you cut them out. I intentionally made them slightly larger than needed so you had a little extra to work with if needed.

If you need to trim them slightly, remember you want them to fit tightly into the game.

Leave the original red and blue game pieces in the game and add these personalized images in front of those cards so you see your image on the front but the branded color on the back.

If you print the cards on sticker paper simply stick the new photo to the original card and then trim any extra off the sides.

yellow mystery cards for the personalized guess who game.

You may want to laminate the 24 yellow mystery cards so that they will last longer. You don’t need to though, the draw card deck that comes with the game is not laminated.

You can glue the original game cards to your new mystery cards (if printed on cardstock or photo paper) before laminating to keep the Guess Who logo on the back.

If you used sticker paper you can stick the new photo to the original game cards.

After the game is all put together you can click the other link to get the sticker file to make a custom sticker to add to the game box.

How to Play Guess Who:

Objective: Your objective is to guess the mystery person on your opponent’s card by asking one question per turn, and eliminating gameboard faces that don’t fit the mystery person’s description.

The Gameboard Faces: Notice the difference among the 24 faces on your gameboard. Hair and eye colors are different; some faces have beards or mustaches; some are wearing hats or glasses. As you play you’ll notice several other differences among the gameboard faces.

YOUR TURN: The younger player always goes first. On your turn, you may either ask a question or guess who the mystery person is, but don’t use your turn to guess the mystery person until you are ready. If you guess wrong you’ll lose the game.

ASKING QUESTIONS: Until you’re ready to guess who the mystery person is, ask your opponent one yes or no question per turn.

Each question must have either a “yes” or “no” answer. For example, you may ask: “does your person wear glasses?” Your opponent must then answer “yes” or “no”.

After your opponent answers, you may eliminate one or more gameboard faces.

For example, if the mystery person is NOT wearing glasses you will flip down all the faces that ARE wearing glasses so you’re only left with the faces not wearing glasses. After you ask your question and flip down any faces your turn is over.

There is no set number of questions that can be asked. Some games may go really quickly with only a few questions asked.

GUESSING THE MYSTERY PERSON: When you’re ready to guess who the mystery person is, make your guess on your turn INSTEAD of asking a question.

After you make your guess your opponent must tell you whether or not your guess is correct. If you’re right, you win the game! If it’s wrong, you lose!

HOW TO WIN: Players alternate turns asking questions until one player makes a guess. If you guess correctly, or your opponent guesses incorrectly, you win the game.

  1. Hey! I am in the middle of using your diy and I wanted to give you some feedback ! First off, I love that you use canva. The template is so simple and easy to use. Second, I think they have recently changed the layout of the guess who character cards, so that the name is lower or the card is longer? Unsure! Figuring out how to use what I’ve got because I like your template (and it’s already printed).

    1. Thank you so much for letting me know about this problem. I have now updated the template so that it has two different sizes and works with both versions of the game.

  2. My kids love the Guess Who Game. What a fun idea to personalize it! This would be a great way to keep their family and friends always near too:)

  3. SUCH a great idea! Love love love the printable and all the steps to walk you through this. I’m sure my kids would totally get a kick out of having family and friends as the people.
