I had all the supplies on hand to make these popsicle stick pumpkins but if you need to purchase supplies you should be able to get everything you need at the Dollar Store or Walmart for around $5.
Supplies for the Popsicle Stick Pumpkins
- 8-10 Popsicle Sticks Per Pumpkin (I used some regular popsicle sticks and some smaller craft sticks) These are really cheap at the dollar store or in a big box at Walmart
- Orange Paint
- Black Marker (We are loving these acrylic paint markers.)
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue (super glue or school glue )
- Twine/ Ribbon (optional)
Making Pumpkins
The first step is deciding how many pumpkins you are going to make and what sizes.
We made several pumpkins in different sizes and they all turned out so cute.
Once you know how many pumpkins you want and how big you want them you will know how many popsicle sticks you need to paint.
I made my small pumpkins 4 mini craft sticks wide and the large ones 8 popsicle sticks wide. You’ll probably want to lay out the popsicle sticks and see what size you like the best.
How to Make a Popsicle Stick Pumpkins
The first step to making your pumpkin is painting the popsicle sticks.
Paint Popsicle Sticks
I started by painting all the popsicle sticks orange. The kids love helping with this so make sure you have a table cloth or craft paper down to protect your table from paint.
After the paint dries you’re ready to put your pumpkins together.
Glue It Together
Line up your popsicle sticks with the painted side down.
Glue the popsicle sticks together. I found that hot gluing along the sticks on the back works well. I also added a popsicle stick glued to the back at a diagonal for extra strength.

Depending on the ages of your kids they can help with this step or you can do it for them.
If you just want a popsicle stick pumpkin you can stop after gluing the popsicle sticks together. But we thought it would be fun to make our pumpkins Halloween pumpkins by adding some faces.
Drawing the Jack O’ lantern Faces
We used black markers to draw different faces on our popsicle stick pumpkins. You can use any black marker but we found that sharpies or paint markers worked best.
After your done drawing your pumpkin faces let everything dry and your pumpkin is ready. You can use your pumpkins to make a fun decoration or keep it as it is!
One of my favorite things to do is make a Halloween Door hanger with our pumpkins!
Halloween Popsicle Stick Pumpkin Door Hanger
Because I made various sizes of pumpkins out of popsicle sticks I decided to alternate their size on the door hanger.
To make the door hanger simply use twine or ribbon to make a loop at the top and glue it to the back of the first pumpkin.
Then you can have a long piece of ribbon/ string and attach the pencils to it or you can cut it into sections that go between the pumpkins. Both of these options work great it’s totally personal preference.

Make sure the string/ribbon is facing the correct direction before gluing the pumpkins to the string or you’ll have the backs of pumpkins (not so cute) facing out instead of the front when you hang your door hanger.
To make this door hanger extra cute you could mix the pumpkins up with these fun popsicle stick ghosts!
