Christmas time is one of my favorite times to do craft projects. I’m not sure if it’s the holiday season or just the fact that it’s colder outside. So, of course, a Christmas Garland is a fun craft to make as we get ready for the holidays.
On one of my trips to the dollar store, I found these adorable wooden Christmas tree and stocking ornaments. At first, I was planning on using them as fun ornaments but I then had the idea of using them for a fun and easy Christmas garland.
Supplies for a Christmas Garland
- Wooden Ornaments (they come in a multi-pack at the dollar store!)
- Paint
- Glitter Glue
- Twine
- Little Clothespins
I already had the paint on hand but everything else came from the Dollar Store! Yay for cheap crafts that turn out so cute!
Making the Christmas Garland
The garland is so easy to make and my kids loved helping with it. First, you’re going to paint your wooden ornaments. We stuck with the traditional green for our Christmas trees and red for the stockings.
Paint or let the kids help paint both sides of the Christmas shapes. Once they are completely dry you’re ready to make them extra special.
I grabbed a set of glitter glue squeeze bottles from the dollar store. The pack had red, gold and silver glitter.
The kids and I had so much fun putting glitter all over the ornaments. Let the glitter dry. At first, it looks like the glue will be too thick but it will dry and look so fun.
Plan on 24-48 hours before the glue is completely dry depending on how crazy you get with the glitter.
Once the glitter is dry your Christmas Garland pieces are ready to hang.
I have small clear command hooks on each side of my fireplace that I leave up all the time. It makes it really easy to hang garlands for all the different holidays and seasons.
Hang the garland by stringing twine or ribbon from one side of your fireplace or wall to the other. Then using mini clothespins hang your freshly decorated wooden stockings and Christmas trees.
If you have extra trees or stockings use the string that comes with the kit to hang them as ornaments on your tree!
