5 Easy Ways to Support Your Immune System

With the change in seasons, it seems like we get sick more often in the winter than in the warmer part of the year. Since the colder part of the year is harder on our bodies it’s important to support your immune system.

Even though it’s been fall for over a month we are just starting to experience some real changes in the weather and temperature. And with those changes in the weather, we are trying to support our immune systems and not get sick.

How to Support Your Immune System

These simple tips are things I have found to help support my family’s immune systems, so we (fingers crossed) don’t get sick as often, and when we do get sick we are able to get feeling better quicker.

Stay Hydrated

Staying Hydrated and drinking enough water is so important to our body’s overall health no matter what time of year.

According to the Mayo Clinic, water helps regulate body temperature, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, and helps dissolve minerals and nutrients so your body can use them, among other things.

In the colder months, I often find it harder to stay hydrated because I don’t typically feel as thirsty as I do during the warmer months.

If drinking water is hard for you, like it is for me, here is a challenge to help you drink more water.

Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep is an easy way to help your body stay healthy. There are a number of health problems including a weakened immune system that has been linked to poor sleep.

So while it might be tempting to scroll through social media, put your phone away and make sure you’re getting the recommended amount of sleep.

What is the recommended amount of sleep you might ask?

The general consensus is that adults should get between 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. But each person is different so listen to your body and learn how much sleep your body needs.

Take Vitamins

Taking vitamins is an important part of how we can help our bodies stay healthy.

Our family recently started taking Elderberry Gummies and we love them. Not only do the gummies taste good, so my kids always want to take them. Elderberry is a great way to support your immune system.

Stay Active

During the colder months, it can be hard to stay as active as we are during the warmer times of the year.

Staying active is important for a healthy body. Even though you might not be spending as much time outside there are some easy ways to stay active indoors.

Eat A Balanced Diet

I don’t know about you but during the winter I want to eat all the baked goods and comfort foods. It can be a real challenge for me to eat enough fruits and veggies.

So while I love eating all the sugary carbs during the winter, especially the holiday season, I try to make eating a balanced diet a priority. Not only do I feel better when I’m eating well, my body also has the nutrients it needs to fight off sickness.

I know there are a lot of other ways you can help support your immune system and stay healthier in the winter, but these 5 easy ways are a great place to start.
